The big difference of ‘that little bit extra’
This week I have been reflecting on many things, but what has been front of mind as I approach my 6 month anniversary of being in the business, is just how well people do their work.
What do I mean by this and why is this standing out in my mind? Of course I would expect the quality of our work to be good, after all we are Harvey Nash Group! What I mean is the extra that goes on top of the great execution of the work. And that this isn’t just reserved for clients, it’s also when we support internal projects and colleague needs too. Following up with extra support and help beyond what was asked for, delivering in a way that demonstrates just how much care and quality is being applied to the task, these are what I mean by doing our work ‘The Harvey Nash Group’ way.
I have to say I have seen remarkable examples of where this is happening day to day and it is truly impressive. I think it’s part of our ‘secret sauce’ that marks out our businesses over the rest in the markets we operate in.
I was also delighted at the end of last week to join Team Scotland’s roundup meeting. What an energetic and focused team. Thanks for including me in your meeting to share what’s happening in the business. I was particularly thinking about the 1% project that is being run there. I am a great fan of incremental gains. The idea that by doing each thing we do just a fraction better, the overall effect is enormously positive.
I completed the round of Senior management Team round tables this week too and had some fantastic conversations about how we can make our great businesses even better. I am reflecting a lot on your ideas and will come back soon to share how we can progress.
This week I was invited to write an article for Computer weekly, one of the world’s longest running IT publications, about the UK government’s support for employment during the crisis. This is part of a wider plan we have for Harvey Nash Group to comment and influence on some of the ‘big picture’ topics.
As the week draws to a close, have a peaceful and refreshing weekend and keep safe and well.
