Reaching out and reconnecting
This past week we closed off our financial year and boldly started out on the new one. Happy New Year everyone! In our usual style, we began our kick-offs which are a fabulous time to look back and reflect on just how much we have achieved in the past 12 months. It’s also an opportunity to look forward at where we will focus our time and what we can look forward to in the coming year.
I love new years and feel doubly spoilt having two, one the calendar year and one the financial year. Maybe I am on my own in that 😊 I always find these moments really energising.
This week our Alumni colleagues had their kick off on the first day of our New Year. It was great to be part of this and we got to talk about our global theme for this year - ‘Reach out’. I am glad to say that there has been a lot of really positive feedback regarding our new theme. After all, most of us will do this as a matter of course most days.
Reaching out for me happens in so many ways. It’s, of course, asking for help in our business or indeed personally from colleagues whenever we need this. Keeping this personal to me and how I will support this theme, it is also about reaching out just a little more to see how I can do my role a little better each day; whether that is in supporting others around our businesses or indeed in supporting our clients.
I remember a colleague some years ago talking at a client event about how reaching out just a little more is possible for us all. He demonstrated this so well by asking us all in the audience to reach up as high as we could above our heads. We all complied. He said “ok, now do it again but this time reach a little further”. To our surprise, we all did achieve just a little more stretch. I think of this often.
I know just how talented our colleagues are across the world and, for me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing people grow and develop. This year we are ever more focused in supporting all of us in our development. I know Mel and her team around the world will talk more about this as the year unfolds.
So, on that note, I will wish everyone a good weekend ahead and the time to rest and recuperate. Keep safe and well.
